GONNA GO BACK IN TIME

Today being my baby sisterโ€™s birthday, when my other sister and I think of her aging, it reminds us that we do too โ€“ a bit. We instantly return to the decades of our youth remembering the crazy times we shared together or with our friends. The 80s still regularly weave their way into my world.

MIX MP3s โ€“ Before the digital age of music, we created mixed tapes as a sign of love, hate, lust โ€“ complex feelings best reflected in the angst-filled lyrics of the 80s. Newer cars donโ€™t have cassette players so we load up music on our iPods. Between Adam Levine and One Direction youโ€™ll find Boingo, Missing Persons, and Adam Ant recapturing my wild youth.

Pouring our heart and souls into bad recordings off the radio!

I still have a tangible response to โ€œIf You Were Hereโ€ which leads me toโ€ฆ

FAVORITE MOVIES โ€“ Who hasnโ€™t spend their 20โ€™s and 30โ€™s (heck Iโ€™m into my 40โ€™s) wishing for the last scene in Sixteen Candles to happen to them?

My favorite movie moment of all time!
Thanks to Faunboy for finding this photo!

Iโ€™ve loved reliving some of the โ€œclassicโ€ films like Ferris Bueller with my kids โ€“ many will premiere in our home years from now because there were too many boobs flying around in the 80s. Right now Iโ€™m in hot pursuit of Weekend at Bernies for the comedy and the two leading men!

CLASSIC STYLES โ€“ Remember the original skinny jeans โ€“ your Jordaches? Who made a quilt out of your team jerseys? Whose high school uniform consisted of black ยพ sleeved baseball style concert jerseys and 501s?

It can be yours on eBAY! What is the value of our childhood?

Who still keeps these in the back of your closet waiting for the day that you can button the jeans again or that your jersey wonโ€™t look like a half-shirt over your belly?

NEVER BORING BOARD GAMES โ€“ I used to know a guy with the goal to purchase all of his favorite childhood board games. He hadnโ€™t anticipated that many games stopped production so internet purchases became costly. I will only hunt for Walt Disney Worldโ€™s Haunted Mansion game! With its vertical backdrop and spinning track, this game felt like a take-home version of the attraction!

For years I couldn’t find it anywhere, I thought I’d dreamed it up! FINALLY, someone has it!

Now, we must go Back to the Future so get your Flux Capacitor calibrated and take it to 88 mph.

Wait, did we figure this out correctly?

See you on the other side!

  1. Whahahahaha! Oh, what a delightful post! You took me back way too far. I still have lots of tapes, LP’s and 7 singles too..heheheh.

Okay, back to the future Marty! LOL!

  2. Oh the 80s… Huey Lewis and the News, all the John Hughes movies (by far the best being Breakfast Club), pegged jeans, Cyndi Lauper, Madonna, cassette tapes (Denon were the best)…that was a fun era to grow up in. The 80s saw me through high school and college. Best. Decade. Ever!!

    1. I love that you still remember your favorite cassette brand! LOL! I agree, 80’s were the best! I’ll visit the 80’s diner near our house and take tons of pictures for you for “reporting” purposes! ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks for wandering through!

      1. Yeah we were addicted to music in the 80s. Yesterday I had a five-plus hour drive to NYC and I listened to my 80s CDs…and it was fun singing along because of course I knew every word to every song. Lol. ๐Ÿ™‚

        1. What a blast! That would be fun! I actually had a running habit for a while so I could listen to all my favorite music uninterrupted. Not lately, too tired from blogging. I need to change that. ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks for wandering through!

          1. I haven’t run in a while either, but I’m working on changing that. Don’t give up your running too long…it’s so easy to lose it!

      1. Purple Rain is my unofficial theme song for my blog. Mostly the instrumental version but “I never wanted to cause you any sorrow… is kinda my desire to reach out and help people.

        1. Best album ever! While I loved the scandal of tunes like Nikki and Erotic City since I was a teen, I think some people didn’t see Prince’s true skill because of that. Hopefully they came around eventually!

          1. He can only play every instrument there is even the harp and he demanded that Warner Bros. let him write and produce his first album which was not the norm back then. He’s a very prolific writer too. He has over 10,000 recorded songs in his vault at Paisley Park. His estate will be releasing albums for decades after he dies.

          2. I’ve definitely visited, I just didn’t stay long enough but will make it a point to do so this weekend! I was going to say Great googly moogly! Great “chatting” with you!

  3. Ahhhhh Prince…I went to see him while he was on his Purple Rain Tour, I am still secretly waiting for him to come and sweep me off of my feet. ; ) Do remember when you had to check your Calvin Kleins because if they had white thread they were imitation and you were horrified!!! Laughing at Eddie Murphy Delirious and dressing up like Madonna. Trying to hit the high notes like Whitney Houston and knowing every word to Karma Kameleon……Yep…now I am getting out my iPod and smiling.

    1. Yes, yes to all of the above, except I don’t think I ever owned real calvins. I didn’t like jeans much back then. I still quote Delirious to this day! Classic! Thank you for wandering through!

  4. The pegged jeans and the big tops of the 80s.

Don’t forget that everyone looked like poodles with those perms in their hair and those weird banana combs that Levar Burton used as a visor on Star Trek.

    1. Yes, we can’t forget those – I overused many of these! With only 365 words, I only covered things that I actually brought to or hope to find in the future and you won’t find any of those on me now! Hah, I used to love banana combs! Thanks for wandering by!
